How can it affect your health if exposed to many phages?

Hi Lenzie, that is an excellent question, and the answer would depend on the phages we’re talking about. Our bodies are constantly exposed to truly phenomenal quantities of phages constantly as part of our healthy microbiota. Our immune systems regulate their presence and in turn they help us to regulate our bodies’ bacterial communities.
For almost all phages in almost any context, they would be unlikely to affect health at all. However, phage therapy has the potential, that is now being explored, to positively impact the health of people with bacterial infections by specifically targeting the bacterial straims that are causing the infection.
